On the whole, we were satisfied with the care provided to our frail, elderly relative at Clitheroe Community Hospital. It was a significant improvement to being at Blackburn Royal Hospital as many clients benefit from their own private facilities; there is a quiet and relaxed atmosphere and staff genuinely want to help.
Her only complaint was the turnover of agency staff, particularly at weekends. On one occasion she asked for assistance and had to wait for up to an hour, which is not very dignified when you need the bathroom.
However, any concerns raised with the ward manager were quickly acted upon and permanent nursing staff on her ward were very kind and respectful. Original Comment Report... Reply from East Lancashire Hospitals NHS Trust Thu, 13 Dec 2018 14:16:08 Z Thank you for taking the time to tell us about your relative's recent stay on the Ribblesdale Ward at Clitheroe Community Hospital. It is lovely to hear that you found the care your relative received from the staff on the ward satisfactory and that the ward had a quiet and relaxed atmosphere. However, I am sorry for the length of time your relative had to wait before being taken to the bathroom and that you needed to raise concerns with the ward manager. It is lovely to know that the concerns raised were quickly acted upon. I will ensure this is passed to the staff who will very much appreciate your comments as they always strive to deliver safe, personal & effective care. My relative is in the hospital at the moment and as he commented to me: "The staff are always changing.... there in no continuity of care...."
One has to explain as an advocate for a patient sometimes. Fine! But when one has to continually do it to people who do not even live In the Ribble Valley, it becomes a very large chore and another burden on a carer.
In the last few days I have seen nurses from who knows where; one told me "See you on Saturday". I have not seen her several days later. Then there was a nurse from West, followed by one from South, Yorkshire. Neither knew much about geography. Agency nurses from which private company. And they can make as much in one shift as one bragged as you lot make in a week.
Not much confidence for a relative in that.??????????????????????
What a pathetic survey-this mall - allleged community/cottage hospital has few departments and one large ward, plus many overworked - non-Agency - staff!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Original Comment Report...
