My sister came into Skylarks a few weeks ago. At the early age of 65 she has fronto-temporal dementia which affects language and social behavior and needs 24 hour care. Having spent several hours there since she moved in I've been able to observe the atmosphere, the staff interaction and the facilities.
It's hard to find words to express how brilliant everything is . The home is spacious, set in lovely grounds, and the rooms are large. But it's the staff that make a home, and everyone of them that I've met has been unfailingly kind, friendly and courteous. it's wonderful not seeing residents sitting round the edge of the room watching TV all day. The atmosphere is calm and residents are encouraged to make their own decisions as far as they can. The willingness of management to change the entry system to accommodate my wandering sister is much appreciated. I always feel welcome, and I've lost count of how any cups of tea I've had. The family ethos pervades everything and residents are allowed to live in their own reality. I only wish all Care Homes could be like this. |
