Norwood is situated within a quiet suburban area on Park Road in Ipswich. The Norwood Charitable Trust, established by MHA supporters Thomas England and his wife, made the largest single gift ever to MHA in the form of a grant of £200,000. This was used to add a new, purpose-built wing to the original building. For this reason, when the home was opened in 1979, it took on the new name, Norwood.

In 2007 Norwood underwent an extensive refurbishment which included a re-design of all communal areas and six new bedrooms. The home also varied its registration in order to provide specialist care for people living with dementia.

The Home Manager said: Over the years this charming building has changed time and again to meet the changing needs of older people, whilst retaining its character
