My mother spent four years at Boarbank. Like many in her situation it might be said she might have preferred to be at home! However neither she nor I could fault the level of care received which was simply superlative and consistently so. The largely lay staff seem to be chosen for their compassion and empathy and are an example to all of us, and all other nursing homes too, of what we look for at that stage of our lives. I think the recruitment and training must be excellent.I'd like to echo the comments of the other reviewer on this page to say that the night staff seemed equally attentive and that my mother's last night was one that left me simply amazed at the tenderness and gentleness and professionalism of the people on duty. What a difference to the last night of my father in hospital and how much it helps close family to come to terms with the death. Yes, maybe one can always find minor criticisms of somewhere that, like most homes, is not swimming in money and resources, but the emphasis is on the thing that matters most and very impressive it is too. In a world where we read so much about lack of care it is very reassuring to know that Boarbank exists. The staff are all absolutely exceptional. |

I was pleased to find out that my father was able to spend his last weeks in Boarbank Hall, but that was nothing compared to the feeling of enormous gratitude I was left with after his time at Mary Mount (Boarbank Nursing Home). I could not believe how settled my father was, despite knowing he was terminally ill, but I now know this was due to the way in which he was looked after during his short stay. To say the Sisters and staff are dedicated and professional is a huge understatement and I still find it hard to believe the levels of care and attention he received from such loving, caring people. Nothing was too much trouble and we, his family, were looked after constantly in the same exemplary manner. The Sisters exude calmness and total confidence and every minute spent in their presence is a lesson in humanity. I could not close without mentioning the night staff. The professionalism of the nurse who dealt with my father in his final nights was way beyond anything I have experienced and as a family we will forever be in their debt. |
