Having my Husband at Avery Lodge suffering with Dementia for respite for two weeks, which I thought would be first class very expensive but you can't put a cost on your health and wellbeing so I thought.
The Care was very poor not shaved very often or showered, complaining continuously, my husband had three pair of pants on, one pair had been on him most of the week, when I mentioned it to one of the staff, and asked who was looking after him in the morning, they replied he got himself washed and dressed, I was appalled.
Never towels in ensuite, items missing from room photos, slippers not very organised.
I feel very guilty for leaving my husband as he does seem to be worse not being looked after in the way he deserves. |

My father was at Avery Lodge for the last 10 months of his life. He was not an easy man but he was treated with extreme kindness by all the staff. Having looked at other homes in the area I made a decision that Avery Lodge was the best although it was further away from me. The rooms were bigger and better than other homes I saw, the food was extremely good and the activities staff really tried to include the residents in things that would interest them. I visited at least twice a week and was happy with the cleanliness and care in the home. As with all care homes there will be occasional glitches but the accommodation and most importantly the attitude of the staff made me feel 'this is as good as it gets'. In the final week of his life Dad was obviously slowly shutting down but he was able to stay in the home until his death not shoved into a hospital. That was the very best for him and me and I really appreciated the staff's attitude to the end |

My stepfather, who has dementia, has been a resident of Avery Lodge for almost 3 years. Initially the care he received was good but as his condition has worsened, so has the level of care. My stepfather is often unshaven, unwashed and in dirty clothes. His room often smells and never looks very clean. My Mother has complained on numerous occasions and the care improves for a while but soon returns to an unacceptable level. I wouldn't recommend this care provider to anyone wanting a relative with dementia to be looked after. |
