Wainford House Residential Care Home

I think that the staff do a fantastic job trying to personalise the care for my mother who is very difficult to look after due to dementia and a very high falls risk with no insight at all into her illness. She has improved a considerable amount physically and gained weight but unfortunately there is no magic solution to her dementia. The small gestures of buying her a birthday and christmas present and personalising items in her room to her favourite colour show kindness and a personal touch. Reading the CQC report many of the issues appear to be documentation rather than reality.

Having visited several care homes with a view to finding residential care for my Mother I reached the conclusion that you can tell whether a home is well run within five minutes of entering it. Wainford House is not 'smart' but that I suspect is an advantage. It is well run. My Mother has been a resident now for some months. It is comfortable, and importantly,clean and does not smell. All members of staff I have met have been professional and cheerful in their approach, communicate well and. most importantly, understand and seek to care appropriately for frail older people and are used to dealing with different levels of mental abilities/dementia. For those able to get out/be taken out the location in the centre of Beccles is good.
