Old Station House

My Dad has been in Old Station House for 6 months. He has dementia and awaiting assessment for Parkinsons. It was a very hard decision for him to move into a care home but the team at Old Station House are so caring and respectful, they have been incredible. I visit Dad a lot and see for myself how the team interact with Dad, encourage him to be involved in the many activities and just reassure him. As he has got worse and his needs have increased, they are always trying to find additional and different ways of ensuring his comfort and safety, and helping to reduce his anxiety. This Christmas, Dad was not able to come to my house, so I went and spent the day with him. The staff made such an effort to make it a special day, bringing residents together in the morning for presents, and putting on a lovely meal with all the trimmings around tables brought together for everyone to be able to be sit in one area. The staff also help me. They understand how hard it is to watch someone you love change and struggle with the most basic of things. They give me ideas and are always happy to talk to me. I feel very fortunate to have found such a wonderful home for my Dad and am grateful to all the team at Old Station House for everything they do for him.

Having looked at a number of care homes, this certainly seemed the best and has proved to be lovely. Each resident has their own flatlet, with bedsitting area, kitchenette and bathroom. They can bring in their own furniture, pictures, ornaments etc. Each floor has their own dining room, so quite intimate. The food is very good, with lots of choice and individual needs/wishes catered for. All the staff are lovely - so friendly and helpful and it is very well managed. Security is excellent and there are pull cords everywhere for help/emergencies. There are activities and trips every weekday and the activities co-ordinator is excellent. There is a large central area for activities and socialising. Also a hairdressing salon, a small shop and a garden for sitting in. There is also a small lounge with a bar. Everywhere is kept clean and well maintained. Medical care is excellent, with staff accompanying residents for doctor and hospital visits. Has a small parking area for visitors, but there are also 2 public car parks very close by. Cannot praise this place enough.

I think Old Station House is a lovely place, the staff are so lovely and friendly, it always looks clean and they always have something for the residents to do eg days out to Millets Farm etc.
