I am extremely disappointed and shocked at the standard of care my relative is receiving at this place. The carers on shift (or the only 2 I saw) were absolutely inadequate. The room my relative is in is not acceptable … the bathroom floor is all tearing off, rusting and is a potential trip hazard considering she struggles with balance (pictures attached below). There is numerous dead flies all over her inside windowsill I have attached the photo. She was served her meal and it was cold, she wasn’t even offered any sauces or condiments I had to go and get them for her and she wasn’t even offered a drink what so ever. She has 3 hangers to hang all of her clothes, her clean and dirty washing is all screwed up inside her wardrobe (we had to fold it all for her). Not one member of staff came in to check on her or to see if she would like a drink. She buzzed for a staff member to ask for a cup of tea and was told if she was buzzing for a reason they are busy doing medications and the carers said she couldn’t wait until she finished at 10pm. She had the same drink sat on her table that she had the following evening. She thought the telly didn’t work until I realised none of the carers had even bothered to tune it in or adjust the aerial. They have lost her only cardigan and said ‘we can’t find it’. None of the staff even said hello or spoke to us, we wanted to speak to somebody about her progress etc and there was nobody about. I could hear the female member of staff shouting down the corridor to another member of staff about another patient “is she getting up or what I’m sick of her buzzing”. Not a friendly or clean place at all!

My mum had a brief stay at Broadfield when she was discharged from Hospital. I initially believed that she would not be comfortable here in unfamiliar surroundings. However during my first visit to see her, she was clearly very happy. She had a spacious room overlooking a small garden area. The staff were brilliant. Nothing was too much trouble and my mum made lots of friends during her stay. It became apparent that surrounded by friends and staff she made a vast improvement in her health and she was very sad when she was told that her stay at Broadfield was coming to an end because of the improvement in her condition. I was delighted when I managed to secure her a place in a Retirement Village. On the day I collected her to take her to her new surroundings, she was clearly very sad and even now she talks about going back to Broadfield where she was very happy. Therefore, I would like to take the opportunity of thanking all those people at Broadfield (you know who you are!) for helping my mum, keeping her safe, looking after her well being and most of all for uplifting her spirits.
