Eryl Fryn

My mother was in Eryl Fryn for four months November 2021 February 2022. She has Alzheimer’s and a stroke affecting her right side. We believe the nursing, nutrition and care were satisfactory. There was no evidence of activities during our time there. We noticed other residents were not interacting, just sitting in a room either sleeping or staring into space, no conversation or laughter in any of our varied visiting times, the television was on, no one was watching it, the remotes didn’t work. Mum initially was taken downstairs about 3 times. They said she couldn’t sit in a chair as she might fall out. In total she was in her bed for 3 months. X-rays have come back clear she just needed a safer chair. During that time she would get upset or not talk. We realised she was not getting any stimulation apart from general care and our short visits allowed by the home. Questions were always deferred to the manager, staff didn’t want to, or were not able to answer us. There was no newsletter or information available without having to ask for it. We lost confidence in the manager her answers were often vague, confusing and contrived, a little action was taken over our concerns but not sustained. We had to report a very serious safeguarding issue to the Inspectorate. We have now managed to move Mum who has settled well.
