I’m currently abroad and in a remote country and needed some advice from a doctor urgently due to being far away from hospitals in the country I’m currently in and due to the pain I’m experiencing progressively getting worse. It is a recurring issue that I have but my usual medication didn’t work and a pharmacist advised me to take an antibiotic that I hadn’t heard of and is rarely prescribed in the U.K. due to its side effects. I just wanted to talk to a doctor who would have access to my medical records about whether taking this antibiotic would be suitable for me and if those side effects are likely to occur. The receptionist I spoke to however was completely unhelpful and really rude to me on the phone. They said that doctors can’t advise on anything prescribed abroad which I don’t understand as all I wanted was a bit more information of the antibiotic. They then said to call 111 which I told them doesn’t work from abroad (which they should know), and said that there’s nothing anyone can do to help me. I’m already in a very stressful situation which has caused me even more stress and upset whilst I’m travelling. Their tone became very abrupt instead of empathetic towards my situation and for someone to behave that way within the medical field is beyond me. I would therefore like to speak to the practice manager about this matter especially as the call has cost me money from calling from abroad. So apparently if you’re looking for some advice from your doctor when you’re abroad, it’s unattainable due to one of the receptionists not knowing how to handle the situation. | ||||||

I have been a Patient at this Practice for over 20 years and have always been treated well and with great dignity and respect. I was seen this week as an urgent appointment. The receptionist was outstanding, asked all the relevant information and signposted me to a face to face appointment rather than a telephone consultation due to the urgent need. She was very caring and considerate in her approach. Thank you receptionist. I was seen by my regular GP who is just amazing, caring and compassionate. Thankyou Portslade Health Centre | ||||||

Saw an awful GP found him extremely unsympathetic. Closed his eyes while I was talking about my symptoms like he was irritated by my account of them, I felt he did not even believe me, I found him patronising and he gave off the impression of superiority whilst consulting with me, he was unfriendly and I left the room in tears due to his attitude, he said he would refer me to The Maxillo Facial dept as I have a small lump in my cheek and swollen salivary glands, I now find out he has referred me to ENT under a routine app, supposing this is a lump is something more sinister shouldnt I have been referred under a 2 week wait referral ?? and I now have to wait 30 - 40 weeks to be seen in ENT probably only to find out its the wrong department and have to be referred again, I felt he should have referred me urgently for the lump and to the correct department, i have now had to contact the secretaries to investigate this.i would never see him again and would not recommend him to anyone. | ||||||
