    I can’t comment on the phone system as I didn’t use it, however I didn’t hear it ring once the entire time I was there so the phones lines couldn’t have been that busy. I walked in on a Friday afternoon, and had one person in the queue in front of me. Within a few minutes I was being seen to by the receptionist who was nothing but polite, respectful and professional. I was given an appointment the following Monday, so one working day later. My Monday experience was very pleasant, with no waiting around which I was expecting after hearing about some friends and relatives experiences. I signed in at around 8:45am and was in the doctors room being seen to within 5 minutes, which was amazing considering my appointment wasn’t even until 9am! Within 20 minutes I was out and on my way home, having booked my next appointment for 4 weeks time. I was given all of the information and treatment I required during my appointment and left feeling satisfied that I was taken seriously.

    My parents are both elderly and in different ways suffering from dementia and confusion. They are not physically able to do much and have communication issues as a result. I live 400 miles away and have visited the surgery a few times to hand over Lasting Power of Attorney details and have phoned on numerous occasions to speak with team members and GPs about my parents' condition. The response of staff at the surgery is always pleasant and willing but it seems like at the end of the day nothing very much happens. My parents are not always able to communicate whether visits have taken place and are sometimes not fully receptive to care, believing that they are more capable than they are. I have conveyed this to the GPs and staff and TCOP team, have requested assessments for memory, incontinence, physical ability, etc. They were visited by TCOP once and by a GP once since my mother had come out of hospital during her visit to me. She has been in hospital again but I was not notified. They are unable to manage their medicines and getting to the surgery is an issue. I have requested to speak with GPs and to be notified of any issues but, as I say, nothing seems to happen. This is not helped by the fact that I have gone through the same thing with Social work and again, nothing happened. They were recently scammed out of money simply because they do not understand the complexities of banking security and I am now managing that for them. However I need to be involved in their healthcare, which is difficult from 400 miles away, so I need better communication and assistance from local Health Care Professionals. I do not feel this is there and my parents suffer as a result.

    Since the practice changed to its current telephone - first come first served practice, it is impossible to get an appointment. The phone lines open at 8.30am by which time they are solidly engaged for the following 90 minutes at least or until all the appointments have gone. This is particularly unfair as it is a time when people are leaving for school run/work which doesn't help either. It is a horrible process on the whole and I have given up trying many times and had to just 'ride stuff out' or seek alternative treatments. Deeply demoralising.
