I have a chronic condition and have moved here from the commuter land in Surrey. The contrast in the service and morale could not be greater. I left a practice that was clearly under resourced that had notices up saying that it was fighting fires. The receptionists were overworked but gave the impression that they were put upon could do the job better if there were no patients. It was not a warm welcome. I did not see my doctor at all frequently, significantly less often than the neurologist specialist. So I was shocked at the greeting I got from the St Margaret's surgery. Smiling faces, folks seeing what they can-do, staff pleased and proud to be at work. The doctor service was fine as to the content, although who am I to judge, but what did impress me was their request to see me regularly at say 2 monthly intervals, their developed listening skills, and taking time to explain things. They were proud of their job and to be working in the NHS, a tone that pervades the practice. Incidentally I have met other people who work in the medical world at social functions and find this pride in the NHS is strong in Bath and North East Somerset. |
