GP’s and doctors here are great, and look after patients very well. Receptionists let the device down, blunt and aggressive on occasion. Sometime you can’t park and need to quickly go find somewhere else, so you may be a minute or two late - cue the lecture on turning up on time, despite the fact you generally have to wait 20-30 minutes anyhow even if you manage to make it on time. Receptionists are first line in healthcare, imagining if you were going for a very worrying or serious condition, meeting this attitude might make people reluctant to go back or even go at all. No doubt they’re busy and stressed, but - really - they need to get over themselves, we’re all busy and generally only want to see a doctor for a medical issue. |

Yet again I ring for an appointment, which I have been invited to do by the Surgery. The receptionist that answered was again quite aggressive in her attitude. Questioned me as to why I should be making this appointment and argued with me. I explained quite a few times that I had been INVITED to make the appointment. She then asks me to hold on and comes back and says - yes, ok I will book you an appointment.
I do not understand this attitude, I had been invited to do this, have been paying into the NHS for approximately 52 yrs and am questioned about an appointment I was asked to make. It puts me off calling for an appointment - I am not one of these people that needs regular medication or go to the Doctor for any silly reason, I am usually feeling quite ill at the time and need to see a Doctor and having to go through this scenario every time I call is stressful at a time when you do not need to feel stressed.
I know receptionists have a hard job but this lady with this attitude is consistent in her rudeness. A very poor reflection of the Surgery as when you actually get to meet a Doctor, they are the exact opposite of this receptionist. Very welcoming, understanding, friendly and caring. |

I have been registered with Penn Surgery for 50 years and have always been glad I am. I appreciate that with the closure of nearby surgeries the patient list here has grown so appointment waiting times have also increased considerably. However, in my own experience the receptionists bend over backwards to help if it's an emergency. The doctors I have seen have also treated me with great care, where necessary referred me on with speed and taken time to explain exactly when and what the next stage would be. The receptionists, although always busy, are always cheerful and friendly. I really appreciate the online booking and repeat prescription service. When I talk to other people and hear the difference experiences that they have in their own medical practice compared with Penn Surgery, I feel very lucky. Personally, I cannot speak highly enough of all the staff that I have had contact with and would like to say a huge thank you to everyone. |
