Having suffered from lumbar back pain since 2017, I eventually approached the NHS for help. The help I received was to be told that my condition would get better by itself and I was sent away. Well, it has not got better by itself and, when I followed the young woman's advice I found a less than professional approach. In October 2018 I was told by my GP 'I will get you some physiotherapy.' Having waited for an appointment I contacted the office given on the referral letter (good job I have access to my medical records otherwise this would have remained a secret!) I was told that I had been given an appointment in October but did not attend. I explained that no one had informed me of the appointment and I felt that I was considered a time waster. An appointment was made for me to see a physiotherapist at Longton Cottage Hospital and I found myself meeting with a pleasant young man who appeared to lack confidence when speaking to a patient. Tthe result of this was to be told that I would be contascted when I could go to a local Gym for 6 sessions over 6 weeks and be educated by someone and then spend 30 minutes doing circuit training. there was no idea of the waiting time for this and, I was no better off when I left than when I arrived. the service I received was stereotypical of the younger members of staff and their performance in the workplace. apparently my movements were ok but the fact that I was feeling constant pain was disregarded. This is the second time I have met with an NHS Physiotherapist who was dismissive and made me feel that I was not worth anything. So, I am still in pain and I have decided to approach a professional for the information I require to reduce/overcome the constant pain I now feel.
