Awful place. Like a concentration camp. My mother was transferred there from hospital a few years ago, left shut in a dark box room with only a bed and a locker, not even a light bulb. She’d been waiting for transport from Royal Berks hospital for hours eventually being put into a vehicle rich numerous other transferres to arrive at this he’ll hole almost 9 hours later. She had nit been given anything to eat all day then upon arriving at this concentration camp when asking for just a biscuit, sandwich or water ALL were refused being told to wait til lunchtime the following day then put into a bed IN THE DARK in a box room with no light, with no help or offer of a wash and all medication taken away out of her reach and left unattended on the side for any other resident to come and take. My mother was left screaming for her meds and ignored to the point she called me from her mobile phone begging me to rescue her. Myself and my daughter walked into this facility off the street at gone midnight where we were immediately met with patients screaming for help as though being tortured yet completely ignored by a large group of staff laughing and drinking coffee in a staff room. I walked past this staff room where not one staff member questioned me as to who I was or where I was going or why I was there in the middle of the night. I eventually found my mother in the god awful kennel she was imprisoned in in an undesirable state where I gathered up all her meds into a bag and got her out of bed and dressed then proceeded to take her out to my car when a staff member eventually asked where I was taken her! To this day I’ve never been asked who I was or why I was removing my mother. Neither has my mother or GP ever been contacted to ask questions. This place should be closed down once and for all. Years later I’m shocked to see the volumes of disgusting feedback posted regarding this facility and that these failures are still ongoing. They also employ geriatricians struck of

Dear Sir or Madam, Thank you for your posting and I am sorry to learn that you have experienced problems when parking at Prospect Park Hospital. I have been in touch with one of our senior managers. You are quite right to point this out and staff should not be parking in these bays if they do not have a disabled badge. As a Trust we are taking steps with our PFI partners to ensure that all parking rules and restrictions are enforced, we are also reviewing our current footprint in order to maximise current space. If you continue to experience problems of this nature, please do not hesitate to contact me directly. Yours Faithfully, Trevor Lyalle Patient Advice & Liaison Service Berkshire Healthcare NHS Foundation Trust. Tel: 01189605027 e mail: bht@berkshire.nhs.uk

My father spent 10 days in the Oakwood Unit recovering from a bad fall. I want to say up front that the nursing was efficient and caring, and was very much appreciated. However, communications were VERY poor.. in fact non-existent. We were not told what his treatment plan included, or even if there was such a plan. Finding someone to talk to was difficult, and the phone was almost never answered. Even getting into or out of the unit was hard ... standing outside 5 minutes sometimes to be admitted. Something that is not easy for my 88 year old mother. Discharge was equally chaotic. We were told the wrong date, then when that was resolved we only learned the day before he was discharged. There was no discussion of follow-up therapy or drug regimen .. all we got was a bag with medication and some cryptic hand written notes about which to take when. Now I totally understand resources are strained, but no communication at all really isn’t acceptable, especially as the units own literature stresses how communication is so big a part of the healing process.
