My mother moved in last August and is well cared for and very happy. She has a nice room with her own pictures and photos on the wall, and chose to use some of her own chests of drawers. Her own tv was PAT tested and she is allowed other electrical items too such as her DVD player and radio. Food is good and home cooked. She loves the entertainment put on by visiting singers etc, and joins in with activities such as craft making and visits to local garden centres or to the seaside for fish and chips. I have the peace of mind she is now safe and I can visit her at any time, as can family and friends.
The home smells nice - an important factor in a care home as if it does not, it means there is some lack of attention to cleaning and hygiene. It is independently owned, not run by a faceless organisation and the manager is extremely experienced and has a medical background.
Finally, I would say that you should be cautious when reading CQC reports as I visited several homes before choosing St Dominics and I cannot understand CQC ratings at all. One home with a good rating seemed to coop up its residents in their rooms until just before lunchtime! |
