It was difficult for us to decide where was best for someone we cared deeply about to live, due to their dementia. We could not have made a better choice than giving Haslington responsibility for his welfare They understand the condition and treat their residents with kindness and respect.
He was encouraged to treat it as his home, rather than being in a home. The food was well prepared and presented. His bedroom and facilities were kept very clean. His clothes were regularly laundered. Any medical problems were dealt with efficiently and we were kept informed.
We visited often and always unannounced, sometimes for prolonged periods, so we consider we would have been aware of any noticeable shortcomings in the care they provided.
We have no hesitation in recommending Haslington to anyone faced with a similar situation. |

My Mum has Alzheimers and my sister and I did our best to keep Mum in her own home for as long as possible. However, last year it became apparent that Mum was no longer safe living on her own. We had already looked at some care homes in Bexley when we were told that there were vacancies at three homes, Haslington being one. We phoned and were told to visit anytime which we did. We arrived and spoke to the management who showed us around. What a massive decision it is to choose a care home for a loved one. It must be right for them. We chose Haslington Residential Care home for several reasons - we liked that there were 3 floors depending on the level of dementia and need of care of the resident, it appeared more "personal," and the staff were so nice and caring. Mum, at 89, can live out her days, she won't have to move.
Mum moved in nearly 6 weeks ago onto the ground floor which is for low dependency residents. However, she has just been moved to the medium dependency floor which better suits mum's needs. Since moving into Haslington Mum, who had lost lots of weight over the past couple of years, has actually put on a little weight. The food is freshly cooked every day and looks and smells lovely, and there is always biscuits or fruit offered with their cups of tea or coffee. Mum is always telling us how kind the carers are - For my sister and I this is "music to our ears." We want our Mum to be safe and comfortable and looked after with care and dignity.
We are so happy with the care Mum is receiving at Haslington and feel that we made the right choice. Geographically it is not as convenient for us to visit as other homes but it is worth the extra few miles as it seems to be the right place for Mum. |
