St Davids House is the residential provision of WESC Foundation: The Specialist Centre for Visual Impairment.&
Overview
At St David&s House we support young people and adults with visual impairment, complex needs and learning disabilities to reach their potential.& As part of the wider WESC Foundation community we focus on creating a homely environment with expectations that young people will continue to develop the skills needed to prepare them for their future.
What we offer
St David&s House is a spacious single storey house, split into three lodges with each lodge having a small garden of its own.& All lodges are staffed with experienced and trained enablers 24 hours a day. Enablers receive regular training to ensure they are up to date with legislation.& Staffing ratios remain flexible to meet the needs of the individual.& Each young person has their own room which they are encouraged to personalise.& Every lodge has large communal areas which include adapted kitchens, laundries and bathrooms.& Also on campus are light and sensory rooms, swimming pool and gym, hydrotherapy pool and trampolines.&
Our residential provision offers highly trained staff to work with people with visual impairment and additional needs; a high quality individual package of care; access to mobility and orientation staff, therapists and health support team; familiarisation with assistive technology.
Enablers help the young people with menu planning, individual timetables, choosing clothes and money/time management.&
There are lots of fun activities available including swimming, singing, sound beam, book club, theatre visits, restaurant trips, carnival evenings, day trips to zoos and Duke of Edinburgh Award.
Each young person will contribute to developing their Health Action Plan which will identify how they wish to be supported to stay healthy. |
