I wish i had never put my mother in this establishment after a fall, medication not given, no bath or shower for ten days until i insisted not encouraged to leave her small room at all, told they would encourage her to walk to help with recovery, this did not happen, her mobile put through their laundry system because no one checked pockets, clothing going missing even though they were all named, had to put carer in to ensure mum had some basic care, so really had to pay twice for her care, wouldnot rrecommend or use this establishment again.

Beverley Grange Nursing and Residential Home is situated is a lovely quiet location in Molescroft,Beverley. A lovely building of both residential and nursing beds and some bungalows too, all surrounded by the most beautiful gardens. My Mum is a resident at Beverley Grange and has been so since December 2012 when I moved her there from another residential home. I moved Mum for two reasons, one being that she was just around the corner from me and secondly but most importantly that the home was everything I was looking for for my Mum. I had viewed around 20 homes in the East Riding and nothing came close to Beverley Grange. From my initial visit I found the staff to be very welcoming, the residents charming and the feel of the place was just so homely. I placed Mum in the home on two weeks respite hoping a room would become free so she could remain there as a permanent resident and she could make this her home. Fortunately this happened and I and Mum were happy. Mum has a lovely room which has recently been refurbished and decorated to a high standard and has lovely furnishings. She has some of her own furniture and personal effects and she loves it and calls it her flat. She has an en suite bathroom with wet room style shower, again it is lovely. Sadly Mum became very ill in March this year and has now taken to her bed. It was probably the most difficult time of my life trying to cope and deal with the situation we were faced with. Initially I spent 12 hours each day at Mums side and the care, kindness, love and support the staff showed Mum and myself was like nothing I have ever experienced and was human kindness at its very best. This was every member of staff not just the carers and nurses but the domestics, laundry and kitchen staff, the handyman, the Office staff, everyone. They sat and chatted to me and Mum, kept me fed and made me endless cups of tea, kept my spirits up but most importantly gave Mum the absolute best care and love. Due to this Mum has made a wonderful return to better health and improves daily. I feel like saying thank you to them all is not enough and so hope I can give something back by putting into words my experiences from a relatives point of view. If you are looking for the best care for your loved one and want them to be happy and where you have peace of mind then in my opinion I would choose Beverley Grange.

A few weeks ago, I went to visit Beverley Grange as the time is coming that we will have to find a Care Home for an elderly relative with dementia. First impressions... walked into total silence.. residents sitting in a reception area slumped in chairs or wheelchairs and two members of staff sitting behind reception chatting to each other and not engaging with the residents. When they finally saw us, it took them about ten minutes to find someone to speak to us, which was fine as we arrived without an appointment and I understand this... and yes we got the grand tour and shown all the equipment...... the emphasise was on the equipment.. special baths, hoists etc... what we are looking for is a kind caring environment where the staff interact with respect to the residents not leave them slumped in reception....... at one point we got told they could not force anyone that did not want to eat or wash to do so, which I understand, but there was no further engagement on how they would encourage this.. just that it was their right to refuse... By the time we were leaving, someone had turned up to sing to the residents, but did the two members of staff behind the reception desk join in... no they did not... they continued their chat behind the desk. Unlike another care home we visited on the same day... What a difference. When we arrived, before we went through the door, we could see all the staff interacting with the residents, there was music playing, some were dancing and the atmosphere was just so different. I could see happy people with big smiles on their faces. Yes there were the few that were sleeping in their chair’s which is to be expected but not all of them like we witnessed at Beverley Grange who were sleeping or just sitting there with no stimulation... At this other home we were made so welcome, introduced to the care workers that were on duty and said hello to many of the residents. Yes we got the grand tour, but the difference was that the ‘equipment’ was a done deal and to be expected anyway... the main emphasis was on the care and dignity which was evident all around us... and just to add there was one lady that said she did not want her lunch as she thought she was not hungry and one of the care workers took her hand very kindly and said, ‘let’s have a look and see what is on offer’ gave her a lovely smile and before we left, this same lady that said she did not want her lunch was tucking into it. So to sum up... guess what home we will be choosing for our relative, not one that has residents sitting in silence in a reception area with staff sitting behind a reception desk and not interacting with them.
