Following a recent visit to a relative I intend to raise the following concerns with the CQC.
On arrival no staff members visible / a computer left unattended in the reception revealed personal information about residents - this was reported to staff with no action taken prior to leaving.
A number of residents had to wait a long time for staff to answer call bells - no staff visible to raise concerns for residents requiring the assistance.
The overall cleanliness;
.Lunchtime trollies /unwashed pots remained in the hallway (our visit took place at 3pm).
. Rotten fruit / dead flowers / missing light fittings and bulbs added to the feeling that this home was unloved and uncared for.
. On arrival greeted with an overwhelming smell of urine/faeces. |

My mother who is 95 had arrived at the place of not being able to shop or care for herself or remember to take her pills etc.Life for her outside her home was becoming difficult and very little,except to look out of her window at people passing by.She did not like the hassle of the two careers who only had a quick half hour to assist her in her home.
Since arriving at Fornham St Martin she has taken on a new lease of life.She has been encouraged to eat [good food well cooked]in the smart dinning room served by jolly happy staff and make many new friends.When I arrived to see her on my last visit she said ''I have bingo in ten minutes"!!!
Wonderful... Fornham House is now her home and she wants to be fully involved with all the activities.Her room and en suite bathroom are well laid out warm and kept well cleaned.She has only good kind gossip to say about all the helpful staff ,who assist some times she sees nearly ten people a day helping her in her room with pills,food,cleaning and assisting with her dressage.
They really make her feel special and do an excellent job of looking after her. |

I am writing this review because I have a friend who is in this care home. I have been several times to visit and although it is clean ,it is impersonal. The times I've visited my friend who is elderly but very intelligent has not been visited by any staff to see how she is apart from the people, different every time ,who deliver her food. NO ONE, stays more than a minute to talk to her or even find out if she's ok. They are too busy serving food! As my friend doesn't want to go to the activities she is isolated for most of the day in her room alone. If I was living there I would want someone to visit from the home at least a couple of times a day just to have some one to chat to , only ten minutes is better than being a lonely old person . My friend is too polite to say anything. Is this the way people should be treated , especially if paying huge amounts of money to stay there.! Please ,who ever is In charge sort this out because I'm sure she's not the only lonely person in this place! |
