My Father spent two weeks at Juniper House. The term "care" amounted to people saying "hello" to him. He was left unshowered for days and, until we really pushed the staff, was frequently left un-dressed and un-fed till mid afternoon. No-one spent time talking to him so he felt lonely. He has a form of senile dementia so he forgets things very quickly but he's an intelligent man who will chat happily. When we asked if he could be showered later in the day I was told that this would be put in his notes, but no-one ever did offer to help wash him in the evening. All in all, it was very poor value for money. Rather than giving my Mother respite, she felt very stressed by the whole thing and visited my Father as much as she could because she knew how unhappy he was staying there. My Father forgets things easily but he seemed to know exactly where he was at Juniper and simply couldn't wait to get out. The catheter that he has to have was left un-changed at times and even leaked without staff noticing. His clothes were left un-changed for up to four days at a time. Care? What care?
