My dad was ill in hospital and after being told we had to find a nursing home we came across Batley Hall. Looked lovely - how wrong were we. My dad was promised love and care - instead he got undignified, neglected and very poor care. The bedroom he was given was on the lower floor - like being in a dungeon. There are supposed to be staff on both floors but never unless the bell was pressed did anyone come down - and that took at long time after pressing the bell. Dads room was dirty, with dead skin on the matress I guess from the previous patient. I asked for it to be cleaned to which I was told there were no cleaners in today! I asked for a hoover so I could do it myself but no one brought one. The food looked horrible and no one knew or followed dads care plan. He had a stent fitted for his lung cancer and was only allowed liquidised food. I arrived one morning to him being offered a bacon sandwich. My dad rang the bell in the night for assistance to pass urine as he was too weak to get up himself. When carer arrived he was told to do it himself. On several occasions he was never offered food and drinks and was left sat in urine and faeces. One afternoon the nurse came around with the medication. She couldnt find the correct tablet so said ahh never mind and left the room. Being a nurse myself this horrified me. After 7 days of sheer undignified hell for my dad I found a bed at an amazing care home nearby and on my own after being told I couldnt move him, got a wheelchair and a taxi and got him out of there. Sadly my dad passed away 3 days later but at least I got him out of the horrible place that is Batley Hall. Please note my dad was totally sound of mind so was able to communicate all of this with me. Most of the patients in there arent sound of mind so I cannot think what they must be treated like. Management are two faced and lovely at first contact - obiously the more beds filled the more money they get. Please please if you care and love your family member like I did my dad, consider your choices, I wouldn't want anyone else to go through the same experience as I did.
