My Aunt needed an emergency care placement for a months respite. The social worker suggested Platters Farm lodge. I’m not from the area and knew nothing about the place and was understandably anxious as to what to expect. The main thing that hit me was the cleanliness and there was absolutely no smell at all. The place was spotlessly clean and fresh. Every time I visited my Aunt she was occupied and interacting with staff in the lounge, there was always a friendly lively atmosphere. The staff were absolutely lovely, so caring and patient and understanding individual needs. For example my Auntie likes to drink tea all day, and a member of staff came to find her when we had moved to another room to top her up! Something so simple, yet could so easily have not bothered. Such a nice gesture. Communication was excellent and I received a few phone calls over various concerns and queries and also informing me that a DR had been called and the outcome, nothing was too much trouble and the phone calls were much appreciated as my Aunt was 100% against the respite break. The lounge had nice music playing all the time, or else there were quizzes or various other activities going on. The residents were always engaged and there was such a happy atmosphere. I didn’t go at set visiting hours as I live a long distance away, but I was welcomed at all times. The food looked very good and was reported as being delicious by several residents. My Aunt can be very difficult but loved the food, loved the staff and made many friends. A huge thank you to all the staff, it meant so much to me to see the care you gave my Auntie during her months stay.

My Dad was placed in Platters Farm Lodge Rehab after pneumonia left him with mobility issues. He had been placed in rehab at Sittingbourne prior to this but had to go back to Medway as an emergency admission and then his rehab bed at Sittingbourne was no longer available when he was ready to be discharged again. At Platters the food has been far better. The menu is varied and akin to meals at home. The roast dinner I saw looked amazing and tea time meals like scrambled egg on toast, fish fingers and beans went down well. Homemade soup, cakes and biscuits made meals less hospital like! The physio he has received has been first rate and has been carried out daily - even during the Easter weekend - and the staff have been extremely caring. Families are welcomed and really well looked after as well. There is nowhere on the planet where one can receive one-to-one care (other than your own home!) but this is superior to any other NHS care setting we have used to date. I was sad when St Barts closed down because he had two successful periods of rehab there in the last decade but if you have a choice, choose Platters!

I paid a visit to my sister on the morning of the 28 December although it was outside normal visiting I was very welcomed by the staff. I had to visit at this time as I was shortly returning to Weymouth and it was lovely to see my sister in such pleasant surroundings. My thanks to all to all the hard working staff. Ron
