Branch Surgery

The vast majority of staff at Median Road and Wick Road surgery have been great; friendly, helpful, patient. I think they do a fantastic job - I cannot emphasise that enough. I've had one occasion where things were not so good. I tried calling my GP this morning to book an appointment. The website said to call from 8:30am. I called solidly from 8:30 until 9am and could only get through to the automated message, which said morning surgery was closed...After half an hour of trying I thought it worth calling the emergency appointment number provided, just in case there was an appointment available that I could make. I mentioned my dilemma and asked if there were any slots available after 4:30, as I have work - just a simple question, asked politely, just in case it was possible. The person I spoke to was so rude and impatient. I understand that they're busy and have a lot of patients to speak to, but I felt like their tone and attitude was totally unnecessary and not appropriate to their role. They're supposed to be representing the NHS and the surgery. They're supposed to help, be patient and professional. If I was a more vulnerable member of the community or a patient who suffered with anxiety/depression/mental health problems and I called that number and got treated like that I would be so upset and feel so helpless. I could understand the antagonism if I was shouting and swearing at them or blaming them for not being able to reach my GP, but I wasn't. I made a concerted effort to be as polite as possible and that's what really bugs me. Whoever I spoke to shouldn't liaise with service users if they haven't got the patience to deal with enquiries professionally.

I have been going here for a year. They are good at handing out prescriptions and sick notes if you tell them exactly what you want. And they are quick to get an appointment at. But if it comes to your actual health, they are terrible. I was sent to incorrect blood tests by a doctor there, they prescribed me the same medication twice after i said i couldn't take it due to allergies. The doctors are constantly 30 minutes or so late, if they bother to show up. And the receptionists are rude, unprofessional and continuously complain how they don't want to be there. Avoid.
