I have never had any issues with appointments or prescriptions, everyone has always been very kind and helpful. I keep moving further away but can't bring myself to move to another practice as this one is so good! |

I was diagnosed with fibromyalgia several years ago but my symptoms seem more like dercums disease but because of the fibro diagnosis the doctor seems reluctant to test or consider for anything else.
I think this is wrong and upset that the doctors just seem to want to blame my symptoms on a previous diagnosis which may well be a wrong diagnosis rather than refering me to someone who could look into my symptoms further.
no pain relief they have given me have worked at all.
I am in extreme pain, think constantly about ending my life to escape this hell
Any activity makes these nodules that already hurt swell up and intense burning stabbing, pulsating aching pains seem to radiate from these nodules in my thighs and spread all over.
i have memory problems, get migraines, extreme fatigue, anxiety, weight gain that i cant seem to lose, bloating. and diagnosed with diabetes and have 2 dvts.
I wish the doctors would listen to me and refer me to somebody who can help me. It is with concern I am write to explain my father's experience of trying to secure a GP appointment.
My father attended a routine eye appointment at the Royal United Hospital on Thursday 16 January 2018. During his consultation, the Consultant asked why his eye was bloodshot. My father was unaware of this. The Consultant thought it was due to his blood pressure and promptly took a reading. He was concerned that my father’s blood pressure was slightly high so asked him to contact his GP surgery to have it retaken. On contacting the surgery my father was asked by the receptionist the details of why he needed the appointment, so he explained. He was offered an appointment for a week later (23 January). My father further explained that the Consultant had requested the retest - she asked my father if he wanted the appointment, or not! He said that he would wait and speak with NHS 111 to seek further medical assistance. They confirmed that my father would need to have his blood pressure rechecked within 2 days. He promptly telephoned the surgery again and spoke to the same receptionist, explaining his conversation with NHS 111; the receptionist then offered him an appointment for the next hour, of the same day.
My concern with the appointment policy is; (a) my father has experienced 3 TIA's - the last was autumn 2017 - the Royal United Hospital confirmed that the contributing factor was his blood pressure. (b) the receptionists’ one approach for all policy, instead of investigating the reasons why a patient’s requesting an appointment should be introduced (c) this procedure didn't help my father's blood pressure - in fact he was so stressed about the whole situation that it concerns me that his blood pressure would have raised considerably and as his eye was suggesting there was a potentially serious underlining problem, as did the Ophthalmologist. I have made my concerns known to the Practice Manager at the surgery who agreed to discuss with the Partner’s at their next weekly meeting. I had to chase a response as I hadn’t received feedback. The response was that they felt the current system was working effectively. My father is 82 years of age. He only rings the surgery for an appointment if he really feels unwell - his philosophy is - what is the point of ringing the surgery for an appointment as they say they don’t have anything for 2 weeks. Reply from St Michaels Surgery Mon, 29 Jan 2018 12:50:37 Z We are extremely sorry that you have felt the need to raise concerns about the practice appointment system. We have a system in place to ensure that demands are met safely and appropriately and that a patient requiring urgent care is able to access it quickly. We do not like to think that a patient would be anxious about calling for help if it is needed and we have written to this patient inviting him in to discuss this further. |
