I had a couple of elbow infections during a recent trip to Canada, and despite medical treatment there, I didn't think the problem was resolved on my return, so called the Surgery for an appointment. Despite it being the Tuesday after the August Bank Holiday, I was able to get an appointment for around 2 hours later. The appointment was with one particular doctor, and from the outset, I felt very at ease with her friendly & professional manner. This included taking detailed notes of the previous events, giving a very thorough examination, and calling Southmead Hospital for further advice on whether I should be immediately referred. Thankfully, the Hospital advised the taking on an antibiotic which appears to have worked as I have subsequently been to a follow up appointment where this doctor has confirmed that all is now ok. I have only been a patient at the Surgery for around 18 months, but have always felt all staff are very friendly, and this latest visit only confirms that feeling |

I visited the Old School Surgery with a chesty cough, that was producing large amounts of mucus that I was choking on during my sleep. Two years previously, I had been admitted to the BRI with bacterial pneumonia. I spent two weeks in Hospital before being sent home. Upon my return to work, I was asked to see a Doctor assigned to examine me on behalf of the occupational health department of my employer. The doctor advised that I stay off work for a further three months then an enforced phased return to normal working wood be implemented gradually increasing my number of working hours over the next five months. All in, I lost nine months from my working year. I work in a quite demanding position that frequently means working away from home, and more often than not working in a foreign country. After talking to the, very helpful, receptionist I was called by a doctor who quietly listened to my gripes then advised that I come in to see someone. I saw a perfectly sympathetic, very knowledgeable professional who was very thorough with my examination. Blood and sputum tests followed, with an X-ray after the blood and sputum came back inconclusive. I was than asked a series of short non intrusive questions to narrow down a suitable course of treatment. When the first treatment had no, noticeable effect, without hesitation, an alternative was immediately suggested and, at the moment, seems to be proving a great success. I returned today for a follow up appointment and the issue of my fear of ending up in a foreign Hospital with pneumonia was noticed and addressed. During one of my examinations, it was also noted that I have higher than normal blood pressure. I have been given a blood pressure diary to keep and have been referred to a mental health specialist to help me to come to terms with my fear of ending up in Hospital. I would find it impossible to come up with a single thing to complain about. The medical care provided by the Old School Surgery goes above and beyond that which I have come to expect from my previously visited surgery. Not only did they promptly, professionally, thoroughly and compassionately treat me but they followed up on other issues discovered during the course of my consultation. The staff at the Old school Surgery are, in my opinion, the best group of people any patient could wish for. I have yet to find anything to be disappointed by. |
