all ways happy with the doctors here. they dont generally offer appointments as it is normally a walk in service which for me works great. ive always manage to see a doctor on the first day of an illness. never had to wait weeks to see a doctor (although ive had to wait for an hour in the waiting room) |

As a student at University there is no way at the moment to be registered at 2 GPs, meaning you have to be registered permanently at the University GP and then as a temporary patient at home. Last summer, while at home, I was very unwell and had to temporarily register at this practice. All was fine, and the doctors were lovely and saw me as many times as I needed. The receptionists were a little rude both over the phone & in person, but the doctors themselves and the treatment they provided were brilliant. However, this Summer around I needed to register again as a temporary patient in order to see a doctor for just a one off appointment and went back to this GP as all was fine before and thought this would be the best option. I did not intend on registering as a permanent patient, as this is not allowed as a student. But, I was told by the lady on reception, rather both coldly and rudely, that the GP was accepting no new patients and to simply go elsewhere, providing no guidance as to which other surgeries may be accepting temporary patients (I was not even looking to be a permanent patient in the first place) so am unsure as to why this was even an issue. I was told it was due to there being some Locum doctors in at the moment, but still do not understand why this would mean I could not register as a temporary patient for a maximum period of 3 months and then be off of the register? I also do not understand why the receptionist I came to be in contact with at this GP had been cold, unhelpful and extremely dismissive, surely not attributes of the job role? It is already stressful enough as a student to have to be registered at University, which can in some cases be miles and miles across the country, and not be able to be registered at home when there for the Summer or any other long period. So, it is even more stressful to then attempt to try the stressful process of trying to register as a temporary patient and be denied (which is fine if is necessary) so coldly and with no kind attitude. Perhaps if receptionists knew how difficult it is to attempt to find an appointment as a student at home for the summer and how frustrating it can be (especially for those with prescriptions) they may think differently and act with compassion instead of acting with such coldness and a dismissive tone. |
