Unfortunately you are rarely able to see the GP who specialises in Diabetes. When offerred an appointment it is usually with a transient GP, a locum or a trainee GP. There is little to no consistency, which patients need when they have a long term chronic condition such as Diabetes. Although you are offered appointments with a Diabetic nurse, they have generalised training in this field and do not understand in depth about Diabetes. It is also impossible to talk to the Diabetic doctor on the telephone as all those appointments are booked up in advance. Don't get me started on the forever long queue for the pharmacy! |

Recently was told to go to Langport Surgery by the Somerton pharmacist as the skin on the back of my hand was badly damaged and persistently wouldn’t stop bleeding (I’m 80 years old with very thin skin and on anticoagulants). Was turned away by reception who said there was no one who could help me she and told me to go to hospital instead. Completely lost faith in this practice and concerned this could be happening to others. |

The receptionist decides whether you will see a doctor or in my case not! Training? Qualifications? for this role. Regardless of training they are excellent at making the decision to get rid of you at the first point of contact. My husband had a medical episode some time ago, he was seen by a 'practitioner' less qualified than myself. The state of the NHS is very worrying. |
