St Vincent House Southsea

We took care in choosing the appropriate residential home for my mother and our expectations of the services we hoped would be provided for her were met and to a high standard. Care planning was detailed and personalised. Staff were professional, approachable and caring. Staffing levels always seemed good. My mothers needs (she had a diagnosis of dementia) were complex and multi-factorial. St Vincents demonstrated well established multi-disciplinary working relationships which ensured they could readily engage with the professionals my mother needed in a timely way. I was impressed with the range of activities offered at the home and their relationship with the wider community - e.g. local nursery and school, church and football club. Care staff were very caring to my mother and also to support other family members. Domestic stuff also demonstrated a personalised approach. This included the lady responsible for laundry, catering staff any handymen - all showed a personalised approach in their contributions in caring for my mother. In the end sadly my mothers placement was only about 6 weeks.

We are very thankful to all the lovely, kind and cheerful carers who looked after Dad at St Vincents in his last year of life.The home is very well run and it was a great comfort to us to know that he was so well looked after during some difficult times through various illnesses with dignity and compassion. When he was well, he enjoyed the activities the home organise. Seeing the look of pleasure on his face steering the Wet Wheels boat on the Solent in the summer was a highlight and he enjoyed the various animal visitors to the home and playing the harp. St Vincents always has a homely atmosphere and the staff are friendly and welcoming, always offering us drinks during our visits. Thank you for all your support through some difficult times.

It is a comfort to our whole family that Dad was able to enjoy his time at St Vincent House even though he never really understood why his wife could not be with him. We look back with fondness on his trip to Fort Nelson to see the poppy display and the tanks, and his boat trip out on the Solent- he really loved that day. Id just like to thank you Irene, and all the staff at St Vincent House, and on behalf of Dads extended family, for all you did during his relatively brief stay. It is very much appreciated.
