    On a recent visit to the surgery the reception staff were friendly towards me and answered my questions. The GP and nurse spotted a condition that needed me to go to hospital for treatment, this was quite urgent and this has been spotted only due to my visit to the surgery. Thanks to all the surgery staff who helped with my care last week. I do not visit often but when I do all the staff take pride in thier work

    I have been a patient at this practice for over 20 years and in the last five years it has deteriorated dramatically. Getting an appointment is very difficult unless it is an emergency - and then you may see temporary doctor and wait for hours. They have no process for dealing with vulnerable adults and it is impossible to speak to anyone who can help if you have a concern. I have emailed about serious issues regarding my family and GP and received absolutely no response or even acknowledgement. Twice I have had tests which have been carried out incorrectly and hence the necessary results were not available when they were needed. I also asked to speak to a receptionist in private when the waiting room was full, and I was ignored and treated as a nuisance. There is no communication or hand-over between staff, so I frequently have to explain everything all over again.

    Appointment waiting times in GP practices across the whole of England have increased in the last five years, currently we have a 14 working day wait to book a routine GP appointment, this is in line with many other GP Practices in England. GP on the day access can be delayed as the duty GP is dealing with on the day emergencies and can take the GP time to deal with to ensure the patient receives the correct treatment, patients are informed that they may have to wait to see the GP on the day. The GP's record all patient consultations on the EMIS Clinical system, this provides a complete record for other GP's and Healthcare professionals who work at the Downland Practice. Patients are advised to complain where they feel unhappy with the service at the surgery, complaints should be sent to the practice on pm.downland@nhs.net. All complaints are dealt with in a timely manner.

    Very unhelpful pharmacist who doesn't care if you buy there or go elsewhere. His default setting is see GP. Aren't we supposed to be helping the GP service by using pharmacies more. What I needed is stated as over the counter meds on the NHS website so this person had no reason to be an unhelpful time waster. Go elsewhere and save yourself some time and pain.

    Sorry to hear that you have had an unpleasant experience from the Downland Pharmacy. Our Pharmacist is very committed to providing an excellent pharmacy service and can deal with many clinical issues, part of dealing with clinical issues is being able to identify what medical concerns need to be seen by a GP. Had the pharmacist been able to issue you with over the counter medication then this action would have been taken. Our Pharmacist and the GP's work together to ensure that patient safety is not compromised. If the advice from the pharmacist is see a GP then please book a GP appointment.
