My child was here voluntaril in 2017. Following the visit, I wrote a complaint in the way shown on official leaflets but have had no response. Some staff were kind and thoughtful and harrased looking; others looked great but seemed to regard the inpatients as lesser beings. The member of staff assigned to develop a plan was on nights for the first week so nothing happened. Two of my child's safe activites were banned in a secure ward and the other required electrical charging so staff would have had to be far more engaged with this aspect of care than they were for it to happen. My child was bullied until another patient left and for the same reason did not want to progress to Little Oak but preferred to endure the greater incarceration of KNole for fear of having no protection. Medication that was not related to the admission was not administered. My child was woken up to be given melatonin because the staff had missed it earlier (if you know this stuff, you will see how daft this is). I ended up visiting nearly every day to give time outside the ward and bring a charged music player to swap. Bringing them back after a home visit felt like a betrayal. I cannot specifically say that any member of staff told an untruth but there were omissions and the impressoin given was not borne out by experience. This made me feel deceived. The placement here is not a good use of NHS resources. Original Comment Report... |

We would like to thank the staff on Little Oaks who cared for our child for four months in late 2017.
This was the first unit where our child felt listened to and there were enough regular staff for them to form positive relationships so they could engage in therapy and trust them.
We were kept informed of what was happening and were able to visit frequently.
We felt it was a very open and welcoming unit. We were shown our child's room, lounge area etc. Which put us at ease.
Above all the staff were amazing and made care plans that suited our child rather than a generic this is what we do.
Thank you for keeping our precious child safe when we couldn't. Our child is alive and enjoying life. Thank you. Original Comment Report...
