The optical care is good, despite the fact that some consultants have left and injections are now done by nurses. But... trying to communicate with the hospital is an appalling experience. I needed to change an appointment and rang a week and a day before the date. The call centre answered and said that someone from Didsbury would try to ring me that day. On Thursday morning my husband took a call when I was in the shower and asked the male caller to ring back in around ten minutes. Thursday came and went as did Friday! Fortunately, as this problem had happened a few times before, one of the helpful people had given me her email. On Sunday I emailed her but received an out of office reply giving another contact so I forwarded the email to the new contact. I finally received a reply this morning asking when I would be free. The person who rang me said that they were chronically short staffed. No apology. This has been going on for a long time, in fact, it seems to coincide with when the hospitals stopped taking their own calls and a call centre was set up. Absolutely awful service!
