Over New Year I developed blepharitis and cysts on my eye and had to attend the eye hospital.
I was seen and sent home with treatment within 30 minutes and everyone I met was lovely and helpful.
I was expecting to have to wait ages and despite being from Scotland and therefore not on their system everything went so smoothly.
Thanks so much to the nurses that saw me as I was in a lot of pain and the treatment cleared everything up within a couple of days.
As a student nurse myself I understand how difficult it can be to work in busy conditions but the nurses in the eye hospital were fantastic, thanks again! Original Comment Report... My father was admitted to have his cataracts removed from both eyes under general anesthetic. On arrival to the ward, we were greeted by a student nurse who showed my father who suffers from Dementia a great deal of understanding, patience and care.
[Very happy with 'Explanations']
Everything was explained to us prior to the operation and we were able to stay with him right up to him receiving the anesthetic. He was seen by the anesthetist, eye specialists, surgeons and nurses and everyone recognized him as a person and spoke directly to him even though he understood very little.
The doctor caring for my Father was Dr. Anakwenze (FY2) who was very calming when he became agitated and tried to soothe him. It was clear she had an understanding of dementia and I just want to thank her and the whole team for the care my father received. I know how difficult it is caring for someone in the advanced stages of dementia and know how hard it must be for all the staff looking after patients with such needs.
It made me feel at ease knowing that my father was still respected as a person and treated with care and compassion and understanding. Thanks so much to a hard working, professional team.

Reply from Manchester University NHS Foundation Trust Thu, 04 May 2017 09:39:05 +0100 We are very sorry to hear your comments about the unsatisfactory experience you had whilst waiting in the Emergency Eye Department (EED) waiting room whilst your wife underwent her consultation. A bespoke customer service training course has been undertaken with 13 administration staff at the eye hospital with positive feedback so this is being rolled out across the whole administration workforce this Spring. Without your wife's details it is difficult to comment specifically on your concerns as we are not able to identify which staff members were working in the EED that day in order to ask for their comments. We take all issues surrounding patient care very seriously and would very much like to hear from you directly about this. If you contact our Patient Advice and Liaison Service on 0161 276 8686 or by e-mailing pals@cmft.nhs.uk they can discuss your specific concerns and experience with you. The Patient Experience Team. |
