This is not a complaint as such. I rang the surgery on a Friday morning about 11.20 and asked if I could speak to a doctor. The receptionist said they had no appointments for that day and could it wait until Monday. The receptionist did not ask what I wanted to discuss with the doctor so therefore could not know if it was urgent or not. My options were minor injuries at Malvern hospital and the practice would be charged an amount to cover my attendance or A&E at the acute hospital. I had actually fallen several days before and was looking to discuss whether I was dealing with my problem correctly. In general I have had good service at the surgery I just felt aggrieved that there ‘appeared’ to be no care of how I was.

A family member recently left this practice in tears, they were told to make an appointment by nursing staff at the surgery after a test. They were told their condition was in their head, which the doctor then referred to CFS as a mental condition, which if this doctor had actually read any literature on the topic would know was either not the case or there was not enough information to infer such a statement, when challenged on this the doctor’s response was ‘I am a GP’. As a sufferer myself as well as a researcher who has done plenty of reading on the subject I implored them to make a complaint however they now feel there is no point to go back to the doctors. So now I feel the only way for others to avoid this treatment is with said review. After this, leading questions where answered with connotations around an unrelated topic and they where essentially called fat as well. The family member then asked what the point in this appointment was when she could have been told the result on the phone, the doctor then replied, I dont know they have wasted both of our time. This one doctor was extremely rude to someone who is not feeling well, dismissed any assertions that they may be wrong, made them feel like a time waster and essentially said a whole range of sufferers of an illness are mentally ill without any evidence or literature to substantially back this claim up. This is a shame as I have had good experiences with the practice outside the obscene length of waiting on the telephone however this is more of a national issue, but now it makes me feel like if some of their GP's hold this view am I essentially being judged every time I visit? I can in no way recommend them when someone who is feeling ill leaves their practice in tears, I strongly recommend the practice reviews their professional etiquette and has their doctors actually do some reading of scientific journals on this subject manner before they make another patient feel like this. An idiopathic condition does not mean there is no condition, as scientists themselves doctors should be more than aware that a lack of understanding does not mean one can assert definitive statements a look at the annuls of history tell us as such. This practice would benefit from learning a lesson in bedside manner for similar cases.
