We are in the process of looking to register with a different surgery. The only consistency we have seen as a family over 5 years of being registered is that both Capel and East Bergholt surgeries offer truly abysmal service and staff. There is little quality and care, we have had encounters with both GP’s and Reception staff who are at best neutral and at worst plainly rude and ignorant to the needs of patients. From patients that are small children to adults and the elderly. The only good thing is the nursing and nurse practitioner staff who have been nothing but efficient, informative and kind. The latter (kind) is obviously not a requirement for any GP or Reception Staff but in a failing NHS system (which we are constantly reminded of as an excuse for poor quality of care) it is both possible to achieve, if not essential, in keeping patients feeling cared for. If ofcourse you’re over subscribed and don’t really care who stays and who leaves, carry on as you are. Then with a smaller patient base you might be able to offer the civility and humanity to all of your registered patients. I could take more time to list specifics, but i’m sure no responsibility would be taken. We would just get to read a list of excuses that mean it’s not their fault. I tried to complain once in person after a particularly awful experience with a GP and Receptionist, I was told there I could make a formal complaint, but talked into believing there was no real point in making a formal complaint - as the reality would be the Practice Manager would speak to me in response to it and as that had already happened - there wasn’t anything more that could be done. Too many excuses and not enough taking ownership of the things that need improving and the things that are downright shameful for a GP Surgery in 2019. Good luck if you stay with them and better luck if you leave. |

You can’t book appointments in advance unless a doctor pre-approves this. You have to phone up on the day at 8am, if you phone up 1 minute past you will be number 20+ in the queue and very unlikely to get an appointment.
There is an online booking system but no appointments available online.
Doctors are always running 20+ minutes late, if not more! Today I managed to get by son an appointment for 11am but we weren’t seen until 11:45!
Some of the GPs are commonly avoided by patients as they do not seem to know what they are doing. They have even used Google to diagnose the problem.
Some of the GPshave a financial interest in the surgery, therefore do not wish to invest in more Nurses or GPs to improve the service as it will cost them.
I would avoid this surgery if you can and go elsewhere, I wish I could |

I am a Parish and District Councillor for East Bergholt with the only solicitors practice in the village.
I comment here however purely in a personal capacity.
Fortunately, I do not need much in the way of medical treatment but in the last two years I have witnessed a substantial improvement in patient care and administration at this practice.
Well done to all the professional and practice staff at the surgeries and a vote of thanks to the Practice Manager! Two particular doctors are very efficient.
For those who are placed on a telephone queue at 8 am I say just be "patient". It soon becomes your turn for a response, especially if you call a little later. |
