Great service can not fault it ... but the waiting time is crazy especially when people get straight in after no waiting ... never get a late appt unless your prepared for a very very long wait |

I had a routine appointment after my optic discs appeared swollen at my last eye test. It was the first time Id ever been to the eye infirmary, and I was extremely anxious as Im autistic and struggle with new experiences and places. Every single member of staff I spoke to was so lovely though, in particular the nurse who did all the preliminary tests (I dont believe I can name her, but I hope the feedback is passed over all the same!) When I mentioned struggling to hear her questions because the fan was distracting me, as I didnt want her to think I was being rude, she insisted on switching it off to make things easier for me, even though it was such a warm day. It was so thoughtful of her and it did help a lot. She was also so patient and explained things thoroughly, as well as keeping a friendly conversation going, all of which helped ease my stress. Everyone else I spoke to had such a friendly and positive attitude too - I know it must take a lot to maintain that in such a stressful job and I hope the staff know just how much its appreciated! The same nurse kindly walked me to the waiting area by the doctors room. I dont know if this usually happens or she simply decided to offer extra help - again, it was something I appreciated a lot as I find following even simple directions and instructions difficult. It may seem like such a minor thing, but it saved me any additional stress. The doctor and the trainee I saw were both very sweet and the doctor was reassuring and explained things very well. It was a relief to learn there wasnt anything wrong - just another difference I was born with. Im confident I would have been well looked after had I needed more care. Not only did all of the above help in the appointment itself, but it also made a huge difference when I left. I hadnt banked on the eye drops affecting my vision to the extreme that I couldnt see my phone screen at all to check bus routes or contact the friends I was meeting. It could have been stressful and upsetting enough to have a meltdown; as it was, I was a little frazzled but also found the funny side and eventually figured out how to help my friends rescue me. It shows just how much of an effect the lovely attitudes of the staff can have, even when theyre not there to see it. |
